Well, there is a Preview plist file, but I don't know if replacing it would help your situation. It can't hurt.

I have PDFs that contain expressions that are much more sophisticated than your rational fractions. My installation of Preview displays my PDFs--expressions and everything--just fine. You need to figure out what you have done to your fonts. It would be helpful if you would post your problematic PDFs.

Hmm. With all the physics and stats articles I've opened in Preview, I've never seen that with PDFs. I see that a lot with PPTs in Safari though. (Of course... well, it's a .ppt in Safari...)

i can open other PDF files and the addition and subtraction symbols show up just fine in Preview
its just for a few PDF's that it doesn't work
yet it seem's to never have no problems ever in Adobe Reader
seems like a bug

To confirm that this is either a bug in Safari or a problem at your end, why not upload some of the problematic .pdf files and link to them? That way, we could check, if we have the same problem, and if we have, can contact Apple, and if we don't help you.

Btw, what exact Preview and Mac OS X version do you use?

Thanks for the link.

I have the same problem with the same Preview version as you.

I think it has something to do with Microsoft Word, as it is the application used to create this document.

Maybe MS needs to update Word?

As long as it is working in Acrobat Reader, you should be fine, even though Acrobat is more CPU and memory intensive than Preview.

seem's like a bug though
shouldn't Preview be able to open everything the same as Adobe Reader?

Additional Bugs in Preview 5.0.2

Have new iMac 21.5" with Preview 5.0.2.

Image editing is what is important to me.

Image files opened in preview and saved to another location show a creation date of December 31, 1903.

And jpgs opened in preview automatically downsize and master high-res originals are getting lost.

Serious problems.
