I currently have jb on 4.1. my iphone springboard crashed twice since JB 4.1 was out. I am thinking of starting fresh and restore 4.1 from itune and jb again. if I don't restore 4.1 now, it will be gone from itune this sunday (don't trust restore from download elsewhere). beside 4.2 JB might take a while to be available.

should I do this? if not, why?

Firmwares don't just disappear. You can still get 1.0, and every other version directly from Apple. You just don't know how is all. Simply go to itunes.com/version and search for the string for the firmware version and model number of iphone you have. Then download the file. I also maintain a list of links for all firmwares direct from Apple here: http://www.hackthatphone.com/4x/firmware_update.html

What you should be doing is getting your SHSHs with tinyumbrella right now while 4.1 is still being signed.

I am guessing you mean it will be gone because of this thread.

Apple likely won't stop signing the day 4.2 comes out any way. 4.0.1 signed for a couple weeks after 4.1. Also we might be able to jailbreak out of the gate. well trusted site to get any firmware from http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
