No Line Out option Mac

Hi,

I am using a new Acer G245H monitor on my Macbook Late 2008 Aluminum running OS X 10.6.4 and I have the sound cable plugged in, but my computer is not using the display's speakers... so much for plug-and-play :confused:

I have tried to going to system preferences, but in the Output tab of "Sound" options, the speakers are not listed (only my internal speakers are) - that is there is no Line Out option. And yes, I am plugging it into the headphone jack :p

Please help me.

Hm, just for the record... plugging in normal headphones does not work either?
 
Double check to make sure you have your cord plugged into the correct jack on your computer. It should be the one further away from the USB ports.
 
Ok. Seemed to be a faulty extension cable that I got with my Henge Dock. Not a problem with either the monitor or the computer. I apologise for wasting your time, but thanks for your help anyway!
