iPhone 4 4.1: no unlocking possible?

I just bought a new iPhone 4, and it came with 4.1 (produced week 42).

I heard that it can't be downgraded.

So am I screwed if I want it unlocked?
 
under sounds i click on it to change my ringtones/Turn off sound. When I click on sounds it does not respond. I did not do anything, Just started doing this today. It doesn't respond. After i click on it it blinks and that is it.
