Hello.

A few years back, 2005, I bought a LaCie d2 dvd burner, its only a firewire400 version, now that macs have no firewire 400, I wonder if tis possible to change the interface card to someone that has a usb port. Or is it better to get a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 cable?

Thanks

There is no way to use Firewire peripherals via a USB port: there have been at least 2 threads on here that have confirmed that and done the issue to death.

Get a Firewire 400<->800 cable.

Better use a Firewire 800 (9-pin) to Firewire 400 (6-pin) cable, they normally cost less than 10€ and it will be easier than replacing Firewire with USB, which is not that easy.

Oh I see. I tough you could change the interface as its is an IDE device.

You could take the drive out of the Firewire enclosure and stick it in a USB one with an IDE interface. But once it's Firewire the IDE bit has absolutely no effect on what you can do. Firewire is Firewire.
