I'm a long time MR reader and have often lurked on the forums but rarely posted. I'm posting now to see if I any of you guys on here have encountered anything like the problem I'm having. I've looked online a little bit, and found most of the results and documentation don't quite apply to my situation, but obviously I could have missed something. Anyway, I'll describe my situation and if anyone out there knows anything about what might be going on with my mbp, I would really appreciate some info. Thanks in advance.
Anyway, here's what's up. Last night my late 08 MBP fell off of a desk, about 3 or more feet from the ground. It was open but closed itself when it landed. It looked already, and fell onto carpet, so I wasn't super duper concerned. It worked fine the rest of that night. I simply closed the case to put it into sleep mode before going to sleep. This morning, I woke up and the sleep indicator light was glowing, but when I opened it, it stopped. I tried waking it from sleep to no avail, and then figured it was turned off for some reason, so I tried hitting the power button. This is the weird part. WHile I have the power button pressed, the computer begins to boot - the sleep indicator light begins to glow, I can hear the HDD begin to move around and the disk drive do the same. Fans start up and everything. But as soon as I release the button it immediately powers down (and makes that little clicking "off" noise). If I don't let go of the button, the led begins to flash quickly and then it shuts off. I tried reseting the pram and the smc to no avail, booting in safe mode, and booting with no battery, all in vein. If anyone has any ideas about the cause in this situation, or has any experience with similar situations, I would love your input.
Thanks for reading this, I'm taking it to an apple store for the free consultation (i don't have apple care) and if they can't help i might try mac authority. Wish me luck!
