Just curious if any of you have guesses on what will be included on the next version of the Mac Pro? I am guessing light peak. What about processors? Anything special in the next 6 months? Maybe a redesign? Seems like it has been years and years of the current design...

It's still about a year till next Mac Pro as X68 chipset and server Sandy Bridges will be out in H2 2011. So, in 6 months, nothing.
Light Peak is possible but I wouldn't say it's likely. SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3.0 should be present.

I doubt we will ever see a redesign since it's quite possible that the Mac Pro will be the next Apple product that will be discontinued. Not now, but maybe in 1-3 revisions. After all, Apple is a mobile idevice toy company now, and that's clearly their focus.
Guess that means everyone should say goodbye too Final Cut Pro, Logic Studio, and Aperture as well.

If X68 supports USB 3.0, then Mac Pro should get it too. Steve just talks about what Apple is currently offering. If Macs had USB 3.0, Steve would say that USB 3.0 is the best thing that has ever happened to Macs.
I don't agree. I think the Mac Pro will be used to introduce Lightpeak, and a couple of other "cutting edge" technologies. Apple gets good marketing mileage from the tech stories that make their way into the consumer media, and they don't risk alienating their main consumers of iMacs and notebooks.
In other words, even if the Mac Pro division is break-even affair (R&D costs being a big expense) they can get millions of $$ of publicity by using MPs to showcase new techs.

That's for LGA1155 parts, i.e. consumer parts. The real things for Mac Pro are coming in H2 2011 (i.e. late 2011).

I would say around 10-20% speed increase for LGA1155 but we have to wait for more tests. Possibly 16-core Mac Pro so that would be ~50% faster than current 12-core is.
I see. So the consumer chips are for the iMac? And Mac Book Pro's?

Yeah, for all other Macs. Only Mac Pro will use those high-end chips with LGA 2011 socket
