An online friend recommended that I download Sophos so I immedlately came here to read about it. I first read this thread about Sophos' free offer: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1042208/

I then found a thread here about how we don't need products like Sophos: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/9400648/
I have to admit, I'm confused. If we can get Trojan horses, wouldn't we want to know and thus get rid of them?

Would Sophos slow down my MBP and drain the battery? Is there a better free resource that doesn't drain the battery or slow down my MBP? Even if we can't get viruses (which I'm thrilled about), I assume it's important to get rid of Trojan Horses.

Should I just delete Java? But then, maybe there are websites I go to in which I need it. I'm not sure. I typically read news sites, go on FB and other bulletin boards, and do online banking.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. My MBP is a 13" that I bought in June. Thank you.
