Or is even one at all? An app IS a program right?

Real question below.

Im reading the sneak peak of Lion and really like the idea of the mac app store and the launchpad. That will really make my incomming MBA ever cooler.

But when looking at the pictures Apple released of the launchpad I get a little confused.

I can see that all the normal mac programs are in the launchpad - Safari, MS Word, Garageband etc etc. And that makes me believe that you will actually be able to see every single program on your mac in the lauchpad.

But what if you get a program thats not in the appstore. Like Google Earth ? Will that end up in the launchpad too?

If not, I foresee a confusing placement of programs and apps. So that you will have to check the launchpad for all Apple aproved programs, and the rest will have to be in a different location.

App is four letters shorter, and since the second letter is repeated for the third, makes it a bit faster to type as well.
