When creating a smart playlist for your iphone does it sync duplicates?

I'm thinking about creating a smart playlists for my podcasts so I can have a recent podcast playlist. All the podcasts in this playlist are already on my iphone. When I sync with this smart playlist will it copy those same podcasts to my iphone thus creating duplicates? Or will it essentially just reorganize the same files I already have to create the new playlist?
