Emoticons or Smileys in Mac Mail?

I've read postings other places, but has anyone come up with a solution on how to show emoticons/smileys (animated) in mac mail? Animated GIFs don't work in mac mail as far as I can tell.

Anyone have a solution?

Firstly, why o why o why would you want to put those things in emails (Call me a Luddite, but I cant stand them... Anyway - Ive never seen anything that supports this, youll just have to use text-based smileys (And dont forget ASCII art - which can even be viewed on System 6....)
