I want to restore my family license of Snow Leopard to USB stick for traveling but don't want it launching every time I connect to my Mac to get other files off the stick .
Any ideas guys? Can I disable the image until I may need it ?

I'm not certain I understand your question, but have you tried right-clicking the file and choosing "Compress [file_name]"? This will create a ZIPed version of your disk image that should only open when double-clicked.

Of course ! I can zip the dmg ..............duh IQ upgrade for me.Thanks mate !

If you put only a DMG, zipped or otherwise, on your flash drive, you will not be able to boot from it.
Nothing on a flash drive is automatically launching when you insert it. What you're seeing is just the partition mounting on the desktop. By default, it opens the window which contains the installer but the installer itself is not starting.
