My girlfriend lost her iPhone, but it won't locate on MobileMe. She said it was on. Any ideas on what to do?

I just had my first iPhone 4 "being lost" scare. Couldn't find it in the car. Thought I'd dropped it on a street in ATL. But I got home and used MobileMe to locate it, said it was at my house, and played the sound until I found it under the front passengers seat. I've never used a passcode before, but I'm using it now for sure from now on.

But I just noticed, even with the passcode feature on - you can still turn the phone off without entering the passcode. So if I did lose it, or someone stole it, they could just turn the damn thing off. How useless is that?

Find My iPhone is, practically speaking, a pretty useless tool. Unless you lose your phone at home a lot and need help finding it that way, it isn't a really good program. First thing most phone thieves do these days is turn the phone off.

'Find my Phone' is a loss-recovery feature. Not a theft-recovery feature.

I mean, it would be nice if the phone was magical, but there's no real way for that to work. (Unless you're willing to give up the ability to turn the phone off.)
