My charger light keeps flashing...

...What does this mean
I have a 2009 Unibody Macbook, and left it over night charging
Its got about half of a battery and the charger light is flashing and it is no longer charging.
Also the side indicator of the battery life is flashing as well.
What should I do and What does it mean
