Does RAM aid the video/graphics card?

Because one of my friends told me that having more RAM aids the video card. As you can't replace or upgrade the video cards in the MBPs, I was wondering if more RAM would be an alternative.

I don't desperatley need it, and my MBP is not preforming poorly in the graphics area, but I would like to know because it would be a future possibility if I start doing more intensive stuff and my MBP isn't preforming to its full potential.

*I have the 13" late 2009 MBP with 2.26 Ghz processor and 4GB of RAM.

Only if you don't have a discreet video card. But even then the video card will only use as much as it's allowed.

As you have the 9400M Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP), you will only take advantage of 256MB RAM, which the 9400M takes from the main RAM. Thus the more RAM you have, the more free RAM from the IGP you have, but the IGP will not take advantage of more RAM.
