Hi friends

I have been looking to buy the iMac 27" I7 for some time now but now I have started thinking about buying an used Mac Pro 2.66 MhZ Nehalem with 6 gb ram, GT120 GPU, 2 HDD's and probably a used Cinema 24" as well.

Price is almost the same - new iMac vs. used Mac Pro.

I like the possibility of replacing/upgrading parts in the Pro - I would probably put a smaller SSD for OS and app's in it right away.

Which one will be the faster? The iMac tempts being brand new and very good looking.

Thanks guys
Lars

Personally I would go with the Mac Pro + the cinema display.
The iMac has a newer processor but the MP offers much more versatility in upgrading.

The i7 iMac has a 9292 Geekbench score, while the MP has 8144, so the iMac's newer proceesor is a bit faster. On the other side, you can upgrade the iMac to 16 GB ram, while the MP supports 32 GB.

Hi Lars,

The 2010 Base Mac Pro is sometimes up on the refurb store for the same price as the 2009. It's worth checking out, the ATI 5770 is a much better card and you'll get a few MHz extra.
