Left bracket won't work

Hello.
Mac newbie here... Be gentle! :)

I just recently got a MacBook Pro, all is great with it apart from one thing.

My left bracket will not work [shift + 9]
As you can see the 9 key works fine but I cannot get the bracket to appear.

Any ideas?
