New to the world of video editing on Mac... just bought a Canon FS30 and trying to make it work on my dated (although perfectly acceptable) computer. Maybe I just need to invest in the latest computer instead...

My system recognizes the camcorder and I have .mod files... I've researched and found that I need to convert these files before using them in iMovie HD 5.0.2 (installed on my system). Tried a sample on a converter that I downloaded online and the quality isn't great. Also just tried to change the file extension to .MPG and open that way, but I get an error saying "Quicktime can't parse it"...

Anyone have any suggestions or am I going about this all wrong? Does this really need to be this hard? Should I return the camcorder? Would I have this much trouble on a new system?
