3GS 3.1.3 Spirit JB want to update to 4.1 and JB

My head is swimming with all the change in the last few months. A while back I was forced to restore and update to 3.1.3. I was able to JB with Spirit but that seems to have limited my options. I am confused and don't know what steps to take to update to 4.1. Do I simply update itunes to 10.1, restore to new 4.1, then JB? Thanks in advance

Now a follow-up question: My 3GS is currently synced to a windows laptop. Is there a way to transfer my contacts and apps over from the windows lappy to my macbook?

Apps, yes. When your iPhone is connect, right click on the iPhone icon, "transfer purchases. Then for your contacts, same thing, "back up".
