SSD in an optical as boot drive

Can a SSD in an optical drive slot be a boot drive in a 2010 mac pro.

I'm debating getting a 2010 mac pro (probably 3.2 quad) to upgrade from my 1,1 mac pro. I'd like a SSD for apps, and to boot from. But I'd also like the four bays to raid for larger capacity. I have tons of photos, and nearly a 2GB iTunes library.

Works fine. I've got a 2009 which is the same for all intents and purposes, X-25M 160G2 in the lower optical bay with MacOS and Windows on it. Normal bays for general storage. YOu can just throw it in there, or use adapter brackets.
 
yup works fine in my 2010 and in earlier models
I used this Lian Li adapter like $6 to hold the SSD
 
Honomaui, it seems like you were about to provide a link for the adaptor for the optical drive.

This is what I'm thinking of doing:

SSD in the optical - probably small, since it's just for programs.

Bays 1 and 2: Raid 1, for important files. Probably 1.5 mirrored.
Bays 3 and 4: Raid 0, for 4TB iTunes music library.

4GB Raid O drive connected by esata for backup. Is it possible to make that Raid 10 with Bays 3 and 4?

Airport extreme with hard drive for time machine for SSD and Bays 1 for backup.

Is this possible with just the raid software in the Mac Pro?
