I'm thinking of picking up this set of RAM from the Egg,
but it is rated at 1333 MHz, and as a cas latency of 9-9-9-9.

Running 1333 Mhz seems to get mixed reviews, some say it works, some say it doesn't. Most of the no works I've seen have been 13" C2D machines.

Anyways, I'm guess the system will clock it at 1066, but am wondering if it will use the spd timings of 9-9-9-9 and cas latency of 9, or if it would drop them down to the better 7 spd timings of the 1066 modules? And, wondering if that difference would even be noticeable?

I guess I'm wondering is it worth saving $30 to get this memory, or get the 1066 MHz which has many positive mac reviews? This is my first Mac, and don't have a good sense as to how picky it is on RAM.

1333 here...

I have 1333s in my uMBP and, yes, I'd be interested to hear from others about what they're experiences are with the chips. More interested to know if they can really tell the difference between the slow/faster latency. If I had to guess, it's indiscernible but I'm no expert. I have the original 4GB 1066s, maybe I should test them against the 8GB 1333s. It's probably just a waste of time.

BTW, everything is working out great...no memory issues so far. I'm glad for that. :)

Usually the RAM Modules should have different timings stored for lower clocks.
Thus if it runs on 1066 it should change the timings too. The necessary data is stored on the module for each specified clock speed (ie 800, 1066 and 1333 for a 1333 module).
Never tried it on a MBP though, but that is the theory from Desktops.

I tried the 1333 (also Corsair) in my 13" MBP and it cause Kernel Panics, do yourself a favor and buy RAM that is specified for your machine. It's inexpensive right now and it works.

I, myself, will be looking for such an exception error to occur. But after 33 days, all's well. Maybe it will rear its ugly head in the near future, but it would not be a big deal to check/test RAM and replace.

Well, I went ahead and ordered it, so we'll see. From the sound of things, I think it will work. At least Newegg has a pretty decent return policy, 60 days, so I'll have plenty of time to try it. Just too good a deal to pass up!

Installed the RAM this morning. computer booted up fine. Didn't get a chance to use it much before I had to leave for work, just launched a few programs. All seems fine.

Still want to run Memtest or Rember to test the memory and see how it goes, but so far, so good. No problems with the 1333MHz memory. Glad I got it for the $89, what a killer deal!
