Someone somewhere has to know how to fix this. I have bricked this iPhone, or rather it has bricked itself. I suspect either Apple has sent a kill code to iPhones or Microsoft has done something in an update to cause this. For the sake of argument and time management this is not my first iPhone and I am very familiar with the jailbreaking procedures - Anyway a little background and specs:
I have an 8g 3g Iphone running 3.1.2. I am running the newest iTunes on a Windows 7 Machine.
This phone was jailbroken when I received it but on the 4,0,1 ispw which was painfully slow. So using Redsn0W I downgraded and jailbroke to the 3.1.2 ispw. The phone ran fine and speedy. No issues for a good 3 months...no crashes, no dropping out of apps, just solid running.
One day about a month ago I noticed that windows would not recognize my iphone. I paid no attention to it as I really do not sync with iTunes unless I have to, and I spend a majority of my time on Linux, and it is recognized there...or was. The phone was also popping into safe mode a couple of times a day as well. I do not have any pirated apps on it..Honest to goodness truth...so I started trouble shooting BigBoss and some other addons I had with no real success.
Two days ago, I upgraded my iTunes to the newest one and hooked up my iPhone to troubleshoot the usb issue and put some new music on. I tried what seemed to be a million different remedies...button combos, editing host files, Tiny Umbrella, etc...etc...and still nothing. There was no recognition of the device being attached. I tried to connect it in ubuntu and the same issue had arisen. The iPhone was dead to my machine. I also tried on my wife's computer as well as my other desktop, and a neighbors Mac...nothing.
So I resigned myself to the fact I was going to have to rejailbreak the phone. I put it into DFU and the phone begins its death loop. The logo comes on and stays on or about 3 minutes and then it restarts - ad nauseam. I have tried and retried to get this into a proper DFU and I am doing it correctly, it is just not budging.
So I try recovery mode, using the proper method and it will go to the logo and about 30 seconds later the screen will show a picture of an iPhone with the BSOD in it. I have to then disconnect the usb and press the home/power combo to restart the process again.
All of my services and drivers are in place. I have even tried to use the dfu-util in Ubuntu to get some response, but it is not working. I also opened the phone and removed the motherboard from the battery for about 3 hours and that did nothing.
I have seen it all over the place that if you can get the phone to respond to button presses then it is not bricked, but I cannot get this thing to move past the logo or the iPhone BSOD screen. Right now this paperweight is sitting plugged in with the logo showing...every 3 minutes or so it shuts off and restarts and goes right back to the logo.
Is this phone hosed? Is there a guru out there that can bring this thing back to life?
Anyone? Beuller?
