Hi everyone,
I've got an iPhone 3G which has been jailbroken/unjailbroken a whole bunch of times, across a whole load of iOS versions over the past few years. Unfortunately the last time I tried to remove the jailbreak and restore the phone to normal something went wrong, and iTunes now refuses to go through the activation process, stating:
As the handset is a few years old, it's long since out of warranty. On top of that, my nearest Apple Store is about 40 miles away, and I also view fixing things as a fun challenge so I'd much prefer to try and fix this myself if at all possible.
I've read a bunch of things saying that if the baseband gets corrupted the IMEI is changed to something starting with 0049 and iTunes throws this error. What's different for me however, is that my IMEI is still intact, starting 01, so from what I can make out my baseband is fine. Also, if I use something like PwnageTool and enable the activation bypass, the handset works absolutely fine, which again makes me think my baseband is fine. So... what's going on?
I've tried restoring iOS 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1 to the handset, and I've got a bunch of SHSH blobs stored on the Saurik servers thanks to Cydia, which I've retrieved using TinyUmbrella, and I can do the restores just fine, but post-restore, all four iOS versions fail to activate in iTunes (unless I do the PwnageTool activation bypass).
So... I've been picking this up every so often over the past few months googling lots, trying more ideas and not really getting anywhere. I'm feeling that I'm getting close to being out of ideas to try at this point, and wondered if anyone here had more tricks they'd like to share with me?
