Hi,

I lent my iphone 3G to a friend to use because I actually switched carriers. He recently gave it back to me and I want to just use it as an iTouch. However, he threw away my old SIM card because he used his own. I had to reformat everything, but once it was done, it required me to have a sim card to unlock it..

Is there anyway to bypass this without buying a sim card?

If your friend is on an official carrier he can put his sim card in to have it activated. Or you can jailbreak your iPhone using LimeRa1n, Redsn0w or GreenPois0n, depending on what iOS it's and the jailbreak will "hactivate" your iPhone.
