I'm in college and i am really wanting an iPhone. I have two-hundred dollars saved up to get an iPhone 4, but it's becoming complicated. I want to try and do this without having to sign up for a 15 dollar a month data plan. Signing a two-year contract shouldn't be an object, i'm part of my parents family plan and will continue to be until i leave college. Anyway, i basically have two questions, 1) Is there a way i can get an iPhone without a data plan (i have Wi-Fi in my room so it's all good) and 2) Would a new iPhone be able to work on the family plan?

Thank you all in advance!

You could buy a used iPhone and use a AT&T GoPhone Pay as you go SIM without a data plan.

So i could put an iPhone on the family plan and simply switch out the SIM cards? that would be awesome.

I said _used_

If you buy a new one from AT&T (family plan or not) you have to continue the regular AT&T service+data plan for the 2 year contract requirement.

No, you cant put a prepaid account on a family plan.
If you're on post paid monthly plans AT&T requires and will add an iphone data plan to your account.
If you use a prepaid AT&T gophone sim you wont need a data plan.

prepaid maybe

otherwise as said, if its a regular pay/month apple will see your EMEI ID and add a data plan to your bill
