Alright. I recently installed a G-Skill phoenix pro 120gb SSD, and 4gb of Mushkin RAM into my 13 2009 mbp.

I've been experiencing intermittent lockups and finally issues with the bootloader - I can't load mach_kernel.

I've switched between the old and new ram, and done extensive testing on the ram with nothing turning up, so it's pretty safe to say that's not it.

So it's the SSD. I booted up from a clone on an external (thank God for backups), ran Disk Utility, and it reported an "invalid node structure."

When I tried to have the disk utility repair it, it failed, and the SSD was no longer mountable.

But here's the kicker. I set up the SSD with a usb/sata, for another shot at mounting it, in an attempt to run diskwarrior. But at that point, the SSD booted all by itself (I have no internal drive at the moment).

I checked it with disk util, and it's reporting no problems.

So, my hesitant conclusion is that it's the SATA cable. This still leaves me confused though, because I would imagine the SATA cable corrupting a disk, but not giving the illusion of corruption.
