This problem started a few days ago. The first time it happened I was screwing around with folder backgrounds (I have since stopped and reverted to only default ones).
Basically what happens is the entire computer freezes for 30 to 60 seconds or so. I can't raise the volume, click on anything, turn the brightness up or down, etc. But iTunes or any movie that's playing the background continues to play. Sometimes my mouse disappears, sometimes it does not.
The symptoms mirror a problem I had with a faulty graphics card in my old computer, but Apple replaced the entire thing.
I have a 2.66 GHz i7 Macbook Pro, 4 GB of ram, 500 GB harddrive (not even close to full), running 10.6.5 w/ all updates.
The freezing ONLY occurs when a finder window is open. I can go hours on Safari or MS Office or Final Cut or Left 4 Dead 2/Steam with no freezes.
Thanks for any help.
