just a Quick questions, does the imac pass multichannel audio via the mini Display port?

as I wouldnt mind connecting it to my 46" TV.
 
I think it does. I tried to find info but couldn't find anything that was 100% sure.

If it doesn't, you just need another cable to carry audio
 
I can confirm that it does indeed. I have the 2010 27"er connected via a MDP to HDMI adapter and a 30' HDMI adapter to our TV and it works flawlessly (audio and video). I bought a $7 adapter on eBay for it, make sure it says it's for video and audio though.
