I have a TV whose back looks like the gif i have attached. I have an mini-dp to vga adaptor. I am trying to hook it up to the tv, what kind of cable should I use? I bought a VGA to DVI cable but that didnt fit into the white plug... So I am trying to see what other cable I should use? It needs to work for my mbp and for my dumb dell desktop too... I need one that is like 15 feet in order to work.

Thanks in advance !

I'm pretty sure the top part is for computers. Have you tried doing that?

I heard the newer HDTV's have a HDMI cable that can connect to the mini dp already.

I tried a VGA to DVI cable and it wouldnt fit in that white plug. It had too many pins and the plug on the TV has a vertical portion? its confusing me

This TV doesnt have HDMI in, or it would have solved my problem...

You may need to get a MDP to DVI adapter and a regular DVI cable, and that looks like it's a DVI-D port.

@thinkinblue, those won't quite work for the user's computer

EDIT - I looked closer at the picture and I'm not exactly sure what sort of DVI port that is. You may want to check out the user manual for that

hi phibe1
read the post above mine. Indeed, there are different types of DVI ports/cables.
Unfortunately, DVI cables are rarely labeled properly.
Wikipedia has some illustrations. some have a plus (+) sign looking set of pins at the left, while others have a minus (-) looking pin.
