I was working in Adobe After Effects CS4 (AE). All the source files and the project files are in ext. HD via Firewire cable. After 5 min of using AE, one of the source file disappeared. I checked the desktop and my ext HD icon was gone. I quit AE and restarted mac. Then the ext HD icon showed up again.

I experienced something similar when I was using Final Cut Pro in Feb, with a different ext. HD. At the time the disappearing issue happened a lot and I went thru series of calls with mac tech guys & in the end I had to bring my mac to the store to replace the mother board.

Is it possible that these 2 issues are related? Any guesses as to what the source of this problem might be? I have 90GB free space in macHD now.

I just installed the Temperature Monitor:
