This is for my dorm room! Which would you guys get? If you guys have a better suggestion in the $250 price range, please let me know!

Please tell me which one and why, it is an external monitor predominately but also to be used as a TV. Will the Samsung work with tivo boxes, xboxes, cox boxes, etc for the future as well?

I think you should look at dell monitors too...they have great screens and are reasonably priced too...
the samsung monitor that you gave the link for looks good but you should definitely check out dell monitors.
