New, looking for an efficient media player

I've recently received an iphone 4. Trying to source proper apps.
Would someone be able to suggest an efficient media player?
 
Yes that's what I'm asking, just looking for the most efficient or best.
Haven't tryed any yet. Saw the VLC and a couple of others. Didn't know which one to go for so I thought I'd ask.
I take it you use VLC and it works well for you?
 
It would help if you told us why you want something other than the iPod app.

Want different controls? More ability to manage playlists on the phone itself instead of needing iTunes? Want to play formats the iPod doesn't support?

People can give better advice if they know what you're looking for.

Thanks for trieing I'm just plane ignorant.
Was unable to get ipod to play film I had just purchased.
Figured I needed anouther media app. But since have figured out how to get the ipod to play the film. I'll work on more concise wording of what I'm asking for.
