Hi...

I'd been having some problems with my iPhone 4 (volume surging) so made an appointment at the Genius bar. I had the phone jailbroken so I could enable the tethering hack (that's the only reason I jaibreak it).

Because I knew the Genius would just send me home and tell me to update to the latest software to see if that fixes it, I upgraded before the appointment to 4.2.1.

The replaced the handset with one that still had 4.1 on it, so I thought I was in luck and could go home, jailbreak, restore my data and then live happily ever after until they release an untethered JB for 4.2.1.

I got home, jailbroke... but can't restore my data (it's mostly all the years worth of SMS that I want to preserve, MobileMe & Exchange take care of everything else).

When I plug into iTunes to do a restore, it tells me it can't do it because the backup is for 4.2.1 and the handset is on 4.1. It wants me to upgrade to 4.2.1 before restoring from backup. If I do that, I won't be able to JB.

Anyone know if there is a way around this? Alternatively, I'd be happy if I could get the old sms's from the backup files and transfer them to the new phone and not bother 'restoring' the whole thing..

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Cheers

EDIT- sorry, never mind. I decided to be a good boy and just upgrade to most recent software so I can restore all the sms etc. Hope the new JB comes out soon!
