This appears to be a bug in OS X (currently running 10.6.5).
I have numerous partitions on my internal 1 TB hard drive (27" iMac) and if I eject the partitions individually I never get the error message that "... one or more programs may be using it" (i.e. a partition).
But if I eject say... five or six partitions at once usually one or more will display the error message and give me the option to force eject or cancel.
Another thing that make me think it is a bug is because I've often chosen to 'cancel' rather than 'force eject' and yet the partition still unmounts.
Also it is not consistent which partition(s) it says is (are) in use (when I have tested it by rebooting, etc.)
I have done the usual Disk Repair, Permissions Repair, ran Disk Warrior, deleted font caches (via Onyx), rebuilt Launch Services (via Onyx), ran SnowLeopard Cache Cleaner (even at the deepest level)... but still it persists.
I don't see any ill effects... but I don't like to see error messages like this for concern it may lead to corrupted files, or a bad (backup) partition, etc.... and I use my system professionally and don't want to lose clients' files.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Ron
