Just curious if iPhone is getting these updates like Android is? This is Google Maps latest update V 5.0. I really dont know if or how far iPhone is behind getting this.

Gmaps on the iPhone still has the same interface as it did in 2007 G1.

There's a very recent love/hate thread on Gmaps for iPhone.

iOS is basically a three year old platform with minor tweaks and improvements. Google maps and youtube haven't really been updated since they debuted on iPhone.

The problem is that iOS needs to get with the program and break away their core applications to allow for individual updates instead of waiting for an entire OS update to get anything accomplished. Nice going Apple!

The way Steve Jobs bashes Google and Android every chance he gets, I highly doubt it. Why would the leading competitor give it's rival the latest and better version of their maps application?

Apple going be making there own maps Last year they boughttwo mapping companies Placebase and Poly9. bye bye Google maps

I wonder how much they are going to charge for it? Remember Android navigation/maps is free and it outperforms any paid GPS/Navigation programs like Tom Tom,Navigon and Garmin, Good luck!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The person who customized that android phone has horrendous taste in fonts.

More and more I look at this thread... the Op is trying to really bash iPhone OS and he is trying to say Android OS is better than iOs because Android OS has been receiving youtube and google map updates...

Google and Apple competes each other, furiously. There is no way apple will allow google map to expand on iOS. Apple doesn't want to depend on google at all. They will most likely come out with their own navigation system.

Well, the current Apple-made map program is free, so I'd expect they'll update it and leave it free.

Apple wants their phone to be better than the competitors. If they take the free map app out, that won't look very good in magazine reviews, would it?

An app that is not even fully compatible with Google's own Nexus One amongst many others.

If they do it better be free. You can't compete by charging for something that your competitor gives away for free.

 Thats just your insecurity thought process.

I dont have an iP4. I went with the Vibrant instead since i still have TMobile and didnt want to stay on EDGE all the time so im just curious if you guys are getting the updates. That is all. No more, no less.

So Apple going to charge people for maps when they been giving them away for free...

Like these companies will provide free, live traffic information.

Who knows what Apple going to do with those companies. What if Apple makes the best maps ever. What if they do something know one else has done with maps.

The current and outdated iOS Google Maps is free because it has bare bone navigation and it was initially launched as part of iPhone back in 2007. If Apple decides to play catch up with their own navigation program (iNav) be rest assured it's not going to be free. It will probably have a yearly fee like Mobileme or be just as expensive as current third party navigation programs for iOS. Apple is in the business of making money first. They never offer sales or rebates.

As wealthy as Steve Jobs is, he isn't a philanthropist and cut Apples philanthropy program a while ago due to cost cuts and never reinstated it.

"we at Apple we love our money" Steve Jobs
