Hello all,

So I have been trying to hook up my old macbook to my 37" Sharp Aquos LCD HDTV. My first thought was to get the mini display port to DVI adapter and then DVI-HDMI cable. My macbook wouldn't detect the tv. The guy at the mac store told me I couldn't use HDMI with my macbook (still not sure why).

So, now I have the mini display port to VGA adapter and the VGA cable. I still have the same problem though. I go to system preferences>displays>detect displays...nothing. I have tried connecting and reconnecting the wires every which way, turning off, and rebooting. nothing works. There is still no signal.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I have been at this for days...

Thanks,
Joe

no, if you have a 2007 MacBook then it has mini DVI, not mini display port.

you need a mini DVI to DVI cable (or mini DVI to DVI adapter + DVI cable) and then a stereo mini jack cable for audio.

Hmm.. yeah i seemed to have figured that out. My question then is, why can i fit the mini-displayport perfectly into the slot next to it.

I definitely have this:

I fit the MDP into the "firewire 400" port (i think)... but it fits.

Anyway, the tv has a VGA input. So would I just need a mini-dvi to VGA adapter with the same VGA cord?

Thanks for all the help!

Yes, you need the below adapter.

Mini DVI >>> VGA
M9320_AV3

from http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1MzA

Btw, the FW400 port looks like this:

And the MDP plug looks like this:
