I dont have any way to back up my photos, and I know there was the problem of losing all your photos.

I really dont want to lose 4000 videos and photos.

Perfectly safe. Pop the disk in, install, software update, done.
I don't even think OS X will let you run iPhoto until you've updated it to 9.1.
Always backup to be safe though. Just copy the iPhoto library file the desktop before install. Then if anything does go wrong, you have a spare copy.
