My grandparents both have accounts on their computer, but would like to access the same iPhoto library. My first solution was to just get an external HD and put one iPhoto library on a partition that both users could access, and have another partition for backups of the computer. Is this a good idea?

I then asked a question and someone told me to get two drives to back up. This seems redundant, since the whole point of the first drive was to backup the library and get it off of the main drive. Now my question is if I can have the iPhoto library still on one users account and share it somehow with both users? Can I place it in a shared folder? Or can I have it back up to the external and have access the backup on the other users' account and set it as the library for those users? Thanks!
