My thumb is clearly on the space bar yet it seems to assume I am touching the C letter. It has been acting up like this lately assuming touches a bit offset. When this happens, it usually affects the whole keyboard causing me to make tons of spelling mistakes and having to slow down while typing. The app opened is Whatsapp.

just replied to a similar post above... do you notice more when using Emoji? (I mention since your picture has emoticons...)
Also, mine seems to prefer to select keys that are more central to the keyboard than the one I am trying to choose. Is this the same with you?

Not really sure what to do about this...
the best advice I can gave is to restore to factory settings and reinstall everything.
