Welcome to the innaugural meeting of the The Grandfathered Unlimited Data Club: People Who Don't Need it But Can't Let it Go, or GUDCPWDNIBCLIG for short.

Join the club if you're grandfathered into unlimited data, don't really need it, but can't bring yourself to turn it off.

Roll call!

guilty but since works pays for it, and it gets me my porn fix for all the traveling I do, I end up having to detox my phone before I trade it in :)

Present.

I've been thinking, if all AT&T users increase their monthly average, would the "top 5%" number rise as well from about 5Gb to say... 10Gb?

I always use to go over 2-3GB, but since then I have really backed off to barely 1.5GB a month but I don't want to let it go just incase one day I want or need it. Who knows maybe I want to watch a few movies on netflix one day when I'm bored somewhere. Not worth it for me to let it go. Was thinking about getting 4GB tethering but I'm all good now with iTether!

I know I'll jailbreak, download a tethering app, and have a need to tether someday. Not today....

There's something empowering in logging on to My Verizon and seeing my data usage as "such and such megabytes/UNLIMITED". Almost like, ha Verizon, I gotcha. The ball's in your court.

*raises hand*

Here! over here!

I've been wondering as to wether or not its even worth it to have unlimited data since AT&T said they will throttle you for two months if your in the top 5% of data users (over 2 gigs?)...

Had every iPhone so far. Had unlimited data the whole time. Only ever had 2 months that I went over 200 mb both of those months were under a gig. I have wifi pretty much everywhere i use my phone I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. Now that I got iTether, that might change.

been grandfathered in since this past summer when they cancelled it(Verizon). any Verizon users on here know when they actually cap you? btw will i get to keep this Unlimited Data Plan when i decide to get the next iPhone, i know it's rumored to be running on 4G<<<will it even matter?

Hello. My name is EricNau, and I'm a People Who Don't Need Unlimited Data But Can't Let it Go.

In fact, most months I could probably get by with the 200 MB plan.

That said, I'm fine paying more now if it means I can use unlimited data when I might need it in the future. However, when Apple releases the 4G iPhone, I'm afraid AT&T will release a new 4G data package (for probably $40/month  ), and I'll have to abandon my unlimited plan anyhow. That would be rather unfortunate, because I would have spent this extra money for nothing.

Oh well, I love not having to worry about going over my limit. :)

Most of the places I use my phone are in wifi range, so I barely use any data. But I still love knowing I have that unlimited data just in case.

Where were you last month?! I missed my chance at joining the club when I terminated the 3G data plan on my iPad and swapped my grandfathered unlimited iPhone plan for the 4 GB tethering plan. Yes, I saved a net $15 a month, yes, my tethered iPad works flawlessly, and yes, I still haven't broken 1.7 GB, but had I known I could be a member of the club (maybe even get a T-shirt), it would have been even more difficult to let go of what despite all logic still felt like a highly valuable right I was lucky to have.

But maybe someone will start an I-Pay-For-Unlimited-Text-Messages-But-Never-Exceed-200 Club? I bet the hat with the embroidered club logo would be awesome.

Proud member, and won't upgrade to an LTE Plan if ATT tries to switch me off my unlimited plan to sign a new contract for 4G....we show loyalty by sticking with a carrier through a contract and when it sunsets, show us some loyalty carriers in knowing you won't slam the door on us just cause you want to...

Loyalty is underrated today...so I am hoping that some people understand that loyalty is more important than increasing their quarterly profits 1/10th of a percent...

Amen to this brother! I used to have WaMu bank (in USA) with free checking, free checks for life, now with Chase, everything is money.
I've been with WaMu+Chase for 10+ years. All they said is "I am sorry, unfortunately..."

I'm also in this club. Right now I'm usually around a Wifi signal, but I don't trust that to always be the case.

As an owner of each and every iPhone I feel I've earned not having to watch my usage. That being said, I use about 300MB per month.

That's all about to change as I am using Tether to my Air at this very moment.

I'm grandfathered in to an unlimited data plan. Just ordered a new iPhone 4S last night since I was able to take advantage of the upgrade offer ($199 instead of $450). I can't wait for my new iPhone to be delivered. w00t w00t!! :D :D :D

Unlimited here and won't give it up.

Essentially i dont' want to go to the place where I have to say, "I'd like to do ____ on my iphone but maybe I won't because I don't want to go over data for the month."

I like the ability to just watch a movie on Netflix or a video(s) on YouTube and never have to think of how it might affect monthly data limits.
