Audio on TV after having HDMI unplugged

Hi,

I'm having some 'trouble' with playing sounds by my Phillips TV.

I'm having a MBP early 2011 with Lion.

Situation:
MBP with XBMC running. XBMC at Phillips TV ofc. (sound + view)
When I unplug the HDMI and later on plug it in again I need to close and open XBMC to have my sound played by my TV.

This doesn't occur at just XBMC but at VLC as well so I assume it isn't a software (XBMC / VLC) related problem. Is there someway to fix this? I don't want to restart programs because the cable has been out for a moment.

some additional info;
If I just wait long enough with the TV connected it will play sound via the TV again.

Try this:
With the HDMI plugged in, go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and see what's selected.
Now unplug the HDMI and look at what's selected.
My guess is that it defaults back to your Built-in Output, since the HDMI is no longer an option. So when you plug your HDMI back in, go to the preference pane and reselect HDMI.

I've tried that as well several times but doesn't work.

Strange fact is that sound from Safari and Adium will go by HDMI but sound from XBMC doesn't. But as said in my first post; this doesn't just occur with XBMC. VLC does the same.

Any other suggestions?
