Helllp! Possible to abort an update mid-way but still keep older version???

So I have Skype and use it to talk to my husband because he's deployed. This version is months old, but I've refused to update because the ratings have gotten significantly worse. I don't want the problems everyone else is dealing with. So I just saw I have 5 new updates available (of course, one of them being Skype), and someHOW... I must have accidentally touched update. I typed my PW in to update the others, so it automatically started with no choice. Is there a way to STOP an update WITHOUT deleting and still be able to keep the older version of the app???
