airport express extending mac mini wifi?

Hi

I have a mac mini setup as a wireless access point/HTPC, works great. However I cannot see the wifi upstairs. I know I can use a airport express as a repeater to boost the wifi signal from a base station or time capsule, but will it work from a mac mini as a AP as well?
