So I just an iPhone 4s today and I had verzion unlock it... They said, they did it... But how can I check?

Do you have foreign sims that you can pop in to test? AT&T & T-Mobile sims will not work with Verizon 4S unlocked phone.

Yes, that's the only way to check it.
Go out of the US and pop in another GSM carriers sim in.

keep in mind they it still still be locked for AT&T and T-Mobile. you can get any foreign sims from ebay.

If you don't know if it's unlocked or not do you really need it unlocked?

Or is having an unlocked iPhone the new "it" thing?

It's nice to confirm it's working before traveling to a country you're not familiar with and finding out your phone doesn't work.

OP: You'll need a foreign SIM. Just get one off eBay. I got an O2 UK SIM last year for something like $5.
