We are pretty much in agreement that if an artist or their label de-lists a song, it will no longer be available for playback or download from iCloud as a matched song.
Now when and if that happens to a song what happens next?
My guess is that if that song is physically in our library it will be uploaded so we will not lose access. This would be true even if our physical copy was a matched copy.
I did an experiment. I have 28 songs with DRM that were not eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade. I replaced all of them with similar iTunes Plus versions about one year ago.
Last week I put them back into my iTunes. None of them are available for purchase in iTunes in the versions that I had and all of them are DRM 128 kbps files.
One whole album matched (Michael Jackson "Thriller, Video Edition"). It matched with the earlier Video Edition and is separate from the replacement 25th Anniversary Edition. They are not listed as duplicates. Also the are 256 kbps DRM free files
The rest of the songs from other artists and other albums did not match. They were uploaded complete with DRM.
So what do you think.
If an artist or their label de-lists a song, will our local iTunes automatically upload the song?
