My MBP crapped and I can't afford to replace it (fixing is not an option) with a brand new rig. So I'm looking at used units on CL and such.

I've been talking with someone about an 08 MBP 15" unibody. Is there anything I should be aware of with this model? What are its foibles?

Stay away from pre-unibody 2007/08 models with Nvidia 8600 GT GPU.

The unibody you are looking at comes with a different GPU that should not have any problems.

I would check the Apple refurbished store - something there might be closer to your price range, and you have the benefit of getting a new looking, well checked machine with 1 year warranty.

ye stay away from ancient technology like the one ur tlking about

look at some 2010 2009 13inch pros. there pretty inexpensive

Don't listen to other people tell you. I bought late 2008 MBP off ebay for dirty cheap and it was working GREAT but I want Apple Store to check everything at no extra cost they found GPU defective but GPU is working just fine when I got it but they just want to replace logic board anyway for free. :)
