iPhone 4 randomly shuts off

I have a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 4 running IOS 5.0.1 with a preserved baseband and it has on many occasions just randomly shut off no matter how much battery is left. When it shuts off the Apple Logo appears but it never turns back on unless I reboot it using Redsn0w (it's a tethered jailbreak).

Any idea what might be causing this?
Would the soon-to-be released untethered jailbreak fix this?
