Hello all,

When I purchased my MBP a couple of years ago I installed Office 2008 and I recently installed the Office 2011 upgrade through school. My question is this, can I now uninstall the Office 2008 version? Or does the 2011 version use any part of this program since it was an upgrade and not a fresh install? I'm still being prompted to update the 2008 version as well as the 2011 version, is that really needed?

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday!

Thanks for any help

You can put the 2008 version in the Trash. It is no longer needed.

I think I would use the uninstaller that Microsoft kindly supplied with Office 2008 - it just might get rid of a lot of junk that purely trashing the applications may leave behind....

Most of that junk is used by Office 2011. Removing it may cause 2011 to not start or forget settings.

Incorrect. The OP can safely remove Office 2008 without negatively or positively affecting Office 2011.

The Office 2008 folder can be removed, but removing other things like the MS AutoUpdater and the Office User Data folder could result in loss of functionality or user settings.

Autoupdate comes with Office 2011 and if any settings are needed from 2008, they have already been transferred over (update per the OP).
