Hello,

I need help identifying the type of cable a combo drive uses. I have an early 2008 mb and I want to put an ssd where the optical drive goes. But the cable from the drive is not SATA. Does anyone know what type of interface this is?

The part number from the ribbon is 821-0590-A from model 678-0567A combo drive. Thanks for your help!

I've just done what your thinking about doing.

I would recommend using an 'optibay' adapter for your MacBook. Look on eBay you will be able to find them cheap. This allows you to just use the cable that's already in the MacBook (the optibay adapter uses the same plug as on the optical drive.

Also you should install the ssd in the original hard drive bay, and the traditional hard drive in the optical bay adapter. This will improve ssd speeds and reliability.
