do you leave wifi on your iphone turned on?

curious to see the results

i only turn it on if i decide to back up to the cloud. i don't care about doing it daily. just my contacts every so often. for those who might know....how does it effect your battery? i'd guess if you're using it in a wifi area it's saving you battery, but if you are only there briefly then the rest of the day you're not near a hot spot then it would end up draining your battery faster.


i notice an increae in speed when using wifi from my router..and would leave it on all the time as long as it doesn't drain the battery super quick


also doe anyone get faster verizon 3g data speeds from their phone compared to using wifi? how about 4g? will that be faster than an average wifi?

If, in your settings, you've enabled the option to "pop up" with new Wifi routers, then you'll be offered a list of available hotspots (once ...when you ignore the popup, it will not reappear until you sleep/wake again) when you begin using the internet connection. It can get annoying, but it can also be handy. I've found a lot of available internet connections in various places that I wouldn't have otherwise known about.

It will NOT connect automatically to a WiFi hotspot unless you've previously connected to that specific hotspot.
 
so the battery isn't effected much i take it

plus now if i leave wifi on i can do the auto i cloud back up...it backs up just contactss and calendars correct? and email?
 
but for the most part wifi is faster than verizons 3g?


wht about when 4g is out...is that faster than home computer internt

It depends where you are. For me, 3G is faster then HotSpots, for others, WiFi is faster.

Theoretically 4G is ~100Mbps which is a lot faster then my Comcast at home for being only 16Mbps.

damn so when 4G is around maybe i'll cancel my internet and just tether?

does the icloud back up same stuff as if iwas to back up on itunes
 
I like having the choice. I turn mine on when in known WiFi zones like at home, work, Starbucks. The rest of the time I turn it off.

Wifi will always be popular. 4G is more expensive than Wifi.
 
I leave it on. Always. Everything. Bluetooth, WiFi, three email accounts etc. Couldn't be bothered turning anything off. Battery usually lasts two days.

From the description on another iOS/Mac forum/blog:
